📚 RCPS Summer Reading 2026

For Current 5th Grade Students (Rising 6th Graders)

Rockdale County Public Schools has shared important Summer Reading information for current 5th grade students who will be entering 6th grade in the 2026–2027 school year.

📖 Required Summer Reading

All current 5th grade students are expected to read the novel:

Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick

📍 How to Get a Copy

Beginning May 13, parents and guardians may pick up a copy of the novel from their child’s feeder middle school.

The book is also available through the following community partners and vendors:

• PINES Library
• The Book Cellar
• Elks Aidemore

✅ Next Steps for Families

• Complete the Rockdale County Public Schools Middle School Summer Reading Signature Form (FY26–27).
• Ensure your child reads Freak the Mighty over the summer.
• Review the district’s Summer Reading materials (linked below).
