School History
C.J. Hicks Elementary School (CJH) is one of 22 schools in Rockdale County. Located twenty miles east of Atlanta, C.J. Hicks Elementary School originally opened its doors in 1970. In 2008, the forty-year-old elementary school building was slated for renovation to be transformed into the Rockdale Magnet School for Science and Technology, and construction of a new facility for C.J. Hicks began. By January 2010, the staff and students of CJH moved into a new 110,000-square-foot building, which became the new C.J. Hicks Elementary School. As the largest elementary school in Rockdale County, with over 800 students enrolled, the school serves Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade as well as three-and four-year old students with disabilities in the Ready program.
The CJH staff is dedicated to fostering a safe, secure, and positive learning environment where students are encouraged to advocate for themselves, embrace diversity, and reach their full potential. CJH plays a crucial role in providing essential support and resources to students and families while striving to provide a safe, secure and positive learning environment where students advocate for themselves, accept others, and advance towards their potential. The CJH mission is to ensure the academic, social and emotional success of all students through rigorous, individualized instruction.
With over 100 staff members, including teachers and paraprofessionals, CJH benefits from a collaborative leadership structure. The leadership team works together to enhance teacher effectiveness, boost student achievement, foster a positive learning culture, organize professional development, and improve the quality of instruction and student success.
