What is Dual Language Immersion?

Dual language immersion (DLI) is an educational program in which two languages are used for instruction(English and a partner language).  Students learn both academic content and literacy in English and, in this case, Spanish.

Student Goals

Academic Achievement:
Perform as well as or better than their English-only counterparts.

Develop high levels of proficiency in native and a second language.

Achieve at or above grade level in academic areas in both languages.

Demonstrate positive cross-cultural attitudes and high self-esteem.

• Proficiency in English and Spanish
• High-level academic skills with a focus on Georgia Standards of Excellence
• Respect and appreciation for other cultures by learning, working and playing in multicultural settings
• Strong thinking and reasoning skills essential in math and science
• Expanded career options with bi-literate and bilingual skills
• Strengthened parent-school partnerships to ensure success for all students.

Please note: Beginning with the 2019-20 school year, RCPS has put a moratorium on Choice options at the elementary level.

The district will be evaluating the resources and structure of the Specialty and Choice programs during this time. Existing Specialty programs at the elementary level will continue with students from within their attendance zone and students already in their programs.

Eligibility Criteria Students must meet standards in ELA, Reading, Math, Science, and Social Studies on the Milestones assessment.  If Milestones results are not available, other assessment data may be considered.
Students must meet the student registration requirement for Rockdale County Public Schools.
Students and parents must agree to the Choice contract.
